I worked with an incredibly talented team — Joshua Tadesse, Gabriella Wauye, Bisrat Ashagre, and Diepreye Vania Ebipade - on a game we developed for the Echo Game Jam, hosted by Africacomicade, Goethe-Institut Nigeria, and the National Commission for Museums and Monuments.
Our concept, inspired by the legacy of Queen Idia of the Benin Kingdom, won the top prize at the jam. Since then, we've continued development with support from the organizers and are excited to showcase the game at Lagos Game Week in the third week of July.
I contributed to the project in three main areas: designing the user interface (Ul), and supporting narrative and visual research to ensure cultural accuracy and respect.
For the Ul, I focused on crafting a visual language that felt intuitive to players and also honored the historical and cultural context of the game. Because the story centers on Queen Idia and the Benin Kingdom, I spent time researching West African art, patterns, symbols, and color theory to inform the design choices for menu layouts to iconography and in-game prompts.
